Chris is a strong but flawed character, descending into alcoholism mid-way through the series. With his birth date somewhere in , as of , he will have spent over half his life battling monstrous mutants.
Claire Redfield first appears in Resident Evil 2 as a year-old motorcycle-riding college student. Claire may be quieter than her older brother, but she's tough as nails. She devotes her life to fighting bioterrorism by joining TerraSave later in the series.
Leon is arguably the most beloved of the main characters in the RE franchise , and it's not hard to see why it's obviously the hair. He first appears in RE2 as a rookie cop who joins up with Claire to fight the zombie horde.
Kennedy Got Worse And Worse. Like many of the RE characters, Leon's first experiences with the undying comes while in the bloom of youth — he's just 21 when he first starts taking down zombies. Rebecca Chambers is the youngest and shortest of the playable characters in the series. She appears in the original Resident Evil as part of the beta team for S. Of the facts known about Rebecca , what is certain is that, while she's not the greatest fighter, being small and young hasn't hampered her usefulness.
She acts as a medic for her first S. He was once a former US Marine, but by the time he meets up with Rebecca and comes into the RE story, he is a criminal facing a tough sentence for his war crimes. Billy is gruff and prickly, probably owing to the fact that he's innocent of his crimes. Billy has been MIA since RE0, but just in case, his plotline is one of those oft-forgotten ones that are worth remembering.
He has an important role in the story, as a member of Umbrella Pharmaceutical's clean-up crew. Since his glow-up reappearance with the release of the Resident Evil 3 remake, and his absence from any other game in the franchise, Carlos is a favorite whom many fans would like to see make a return in Resident Evil Village. Sheva Alomar is a playable character who appears only in Resident Evil 5 , the first in the mainline series of the RE games to be a co-op game.
Sheva is tough, whip-smart, and unshakeable, owing to her difficult youth which set her up to thrive on the hunt for the Uroboros. Jake Muller is one of the more interesting protagonists of the Resident Evil series. He first appears in the much-maligned Resident Evil 6 as one of the many playable characters in that game. Jake is a mercenary raised in the fictional eastern European country of Edonia. Fighting alongside Sherry Birkin, it soon emerges that he is the son of a powerful villain from the original Resident Evil.
Despite RE6 being underwhelming to fans, he is arguably one of the strongest protagonists in the series. She is disturbed by the image, and recognizes it as evidence of the use of T-Virus or other similar bioweapons. After the attack at the white house, Claire arrives for her scheduled appointment with Press Secretary Spacer , only to be told that he is on the leave, not knowing that he was killed in the attack. She then spots Leon, who she confides in about her discovery about a biohazard in Penamstan.
Leon leaves telling her not to do anything stupid only for Claire to retaliate that the suit doesn't work on him. Returning to her motel in Washington D. C, she takes it upon herself to investigate what had happend in Penamstan. Reviewing news footage and newspaper clippings, she pieces the information together on a wall. Among this information is the controversy surrounding the US intervention, such as allegations of it being orchestrated simply to intimidate the Chinese.
Moving on, she begins looking at the men who served, only to find that out of the seven " Mad Dogs " who returned to their barracks in Texas five have committed suicide. She then continues her investigation into the possible use of bioweapons in the Penamstan Civil War , she heads out to ask one of the remaining veterans some questions, only to find out that he had also commited suicide.
Finding a suicide note left behind by the soldier, she calls the New York City Police Department and draws the conclusion that they have all been infected. Claire arrives at the White House once more to ask Defense Secretary Wilson of his involvement in the use of bioweapons but is ignored.
When she returns to the motel, she is ambushed by Secret Service agents and is tazed and kidnapped. Claire wakes up strapped to a chair, trapped under a secret research facility located beneath Andrews Air Force Base, where they were conducting research into creating super-soldiers engineered from the virus. Interrogated by Wilson, he tries to bribe her silence with a charitable donation to TerraSave's mission in Penamstan but she rejects. He offers the dead soldier's PTSD as a reason why the authorities wouldn't bother investigating him and that he could simply have her killed otherwise.
Believing himself to have won regardless, Wilson reveals his true plan to her: by declaring China a rogue state it would be in Penamstan's best interests for continued American presence. To protect it from China, the Penamstan military would be provided with bioweapons in the form of hundreds of super-soldiers, each effectively enslaved by their dependence on regular doses of an antiretroviral drug only he can provide and which Penamstan will have to make constant orders for, making him vastly wealthy in the process.
Claire calls out the insanity of his plan. Jason arrives at facility on an upper level, and is immediately recognised by Claire as the last member of the Mad Dogs.
After Jason mutates, The facility's supercomputer determines a biohazard has taken place, and begins dumping the unconscious soldiers into a vat of highly corrosive acids and also putting Claire at risk, which has reached her floor, and has to climb up for her safety.
When Leon spots her, he chooses to save Claire rather than continue pursuing Jason. Using the facility to her advantage, she takes control of the facility's cranes, and attempts to drop Jason into the acid below.
Her attempts failed however as Jason toss a gantry to the control room and almost crushed her. Leon manages to kill Jason and the two make it out of the facility. Late in the afternoon, Claire meets Leon outside the White House. Claire asks Leon to hand over the chip so she can deliver it to the press. However, Leon refuses because of what Jason said about his willingness to spread terror in people.
Claire is disappointed in his decision, commenting that the "outfit" doesn't suit him and leaves. Due to Sherry Birkin's protection being no longer necessary, she became a U. Despite this, both women always spent time together when their busy schedules permitted it. In , Redfield and a number of other TerraSave members were captured in a raid on their headquarters by a paramilitary organisation led by Alex Wesker.
Having entered a deal with TerraSave member and Claire's superior Neil Fisher, the members were taken to Sejm Island in the Baltic, and infected with t-Phobos Virus for Wesker's personal research in copying her consciousness into a new host.
In exchange, Fisher was to be provided with a sample of the Uroboros Virus, so that a vaccine may be produced, in an arrangement Fisher believed to be for the greater good. Redfield; Moira Burton and Gina Foley found themselves trapped within a decaying Brezknev-era prison that had been modified under Wesker's orders to serve as a torture chamber, and were set upon by the infected failed experiments before them, dubbed Afflicted.
Though Foley was killed, Redfield and Burton were able to escape into the woods, where they found Fisher; Pedro Fernandez and Gabriel Chavez at an abandoned fishing village. Due to the nature of the t-Phobos Virus, Fernandez, who was repeatedly harassed by Afflicted, became stressed enough for the virus to begin mutating him, and he became a dangerous adversary for the others. Redfield; Fisher and Burton were separated from Chavez, who was hard at work repairing a helicopter, with Fisher also splitting up as they got into the city, intent on obtaining his Uroboros sample while keeping the others unaware.
The two encountered the mutant Fernandez a second time, as a mutating Chavez crashed the helicopter into the city. While exploring the decaying city ruins, Redfield and Burton found a young girl, Natalia Korda, who had also been abducted in the TerraSave attack. Korda did not react to the monsters as the others did, and was captured by Fisher as Wesker's ideal test subject. On their own, Redfield and Burton journeyed into the industrial zone, where they were led into a trap by Wesker, who had rigged a factory to catch fire.
The two escaped into the sewers and, believed dead, were able to make their way through and raid Wesker's base, a single tower that loomed above the island on all sides. At the base of the building, they learn the truth of Fisher's dealings with Wesker, and that he had been betrayed and infected with Uroboros. He is seen mutated into a powerful monster and had to be killed by Burton. Progressing to the top of the tower, the two witnessed Wesker shoot herself, seeing Korda as her successor and herself no longer necessary in her own plans.
With Wesker dead, however, the building began to self-destruct. Redfield was able to jump out of an opening in the wall and survived the plunge into the sea, though Burton was left behind.
Redfield was found floating in the ocean and rushed to a hospital for examination. When visited by Barry Burton, now a BSAA agent, she gave him and the BSAA enough information to plan out a mission, though it took another six months to confirm the location of the island.
Redfield returned to the island in a BSAA helicopter the morning after Burton's one-man raid which rescued Korda and his daughter. The group were attacked by Wesker, whose suicide attempt had failed and triggered violent mutations, but following her death all four were able to escape ahead of the BSAA sterilisation operation. In , two years after the incident, Claire is seen driving an SUV down a road, going to Burton's residence with a gift.
Claire, in turn, asks them to tell Piers Nivans to take care of her brother before hanging up. However, shortly after this is done, the fish suddenly comes alive, forcing Claire to stab it with her combat knife.
Further investigation lead Claire to historical documents in the Conejo city library, which revealed that Umbrella founder Oswell E. Spencer had purchased a former US Military Base on the island in the late s. Claire finds the underground of the Umbrella abandoned facility with the survivors of Sonido de Tortuga.
Faced with a pincer attack by two new B. This spot, a seemingly abandoned facility, gave way to the remnants of one of the first research facilities established by Alex Wesker following on Spencer's initial research into immortality. This leaves Sherry with Leon S. Kennedy , which is not what either of them expected, but they find a comfortable kinship in one another. Leon acts as Sherry's guardian in the immediate aftermath of Resident Evil 2 , but it's the interference of the government and bioterrorism affairs that leads to their separation.
Their time together is brief, but it's likely that Sherry still internalized some important values from her time with Leon. Sherry is a well-developed character Resident Evil character with a rough history. Claire's need to protect Sherry may sometimes be a nuisance, but there's a strange perk that accompanies Sherry's character that's exclusive to her. Sherry is so short that the zombies that are near her won't be able to land any bites on her.
It can add an interesting strategy to the player's approach. However, the zombies' projectile acid vomit attack can still hurt Sherry, so it's not as if the zombies aren't without methods of hurting Sherry. One of the most endearing aspects of Resident Evil 2 is the very sisterly bond that's formed between Sherry Birkin and Claire Redfield.
They're both characters who are separated from their biological family. Claire leaves in search of her brother, Chris, but the character-based epilogues in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis , provide a little context on what happens next with Sherry. When the military tries to figure out what to do with the orphaned Sherry, she voices her resolve in how Claire will return for her.
It's bittersweet that this reunion doesn't play out as Sherry has hoped.
