Before you begin Check the Internet connection on your computer or smartphone. Go to Menu. Press MENU on your remote. Connect Now. Choose how to connect. There are a few different ways to connect to the Internet. Connect With Ethernet Wired.
Connect With Wi-Fi Wireless. Connect With Ethernet. Restart your router— unplug it for a few seconds, then plug it back in. Connect with Wifi. Select method below. Step 1 Select Set Up Wireless. It should look like this: Press the WPS button and your receiver will automatically connect to the Internet. Determine the distance between your router and your DISH receiver.
Ethernet cables can transmit a signal for over meters, but if your DISH receiver is in a different room than your Internet router, you may need to buy an extra-long cable and run it along the floor or the ceiling , or thread it through the walls. Obtain an Ethernet cable. You can buy Ethernet cables at most stores which include tech or electrical departments, though it may be cheaper to buy an Ethernet cable online in an environment such as Amazon. If you have an option, opting for an Ethernet cable with PVC shielding will prevent the cable from tearing or breaking if you accidentally trip over it.
Connect the Ethernet cable to your router. Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into one of the free "Internet" ports on the back of your router. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into your receiver.
It should plug directly into the Ethernet port on the back of the receiver. Method 2. Purchase and connect a wireless adapter. This is unnecessary on a Hopper 3 or Hopper with Sling receiver. Turn on your TV and select the receiver's input if necessary. Bring up the DISH menu. Select Settings. You'll find it near the top of the screen.
Select Internet. This option is near the top of the Settings page. Select Wireless Setup. It's in the lower-right corner of the screen.
Doing so brings up a list of wireless options. This option is near the top of the screen. Select a network. In the list of available networks, select the name of the one that you want to use. Select Next. It's on the right side of the page. Enter your password. Using the on-screen keyboard, type in your wireless network's password. Select Save. Doing so will save your network settings and connect your receiver to the Internet.
Method 3. Understand that Joey receivers connect automatically. Unless you haven't finished setting up your Joey receiver or it's disconnected from the Hopper, it should currently be connected to the Internet. The only exception to this rule is if the receiver's "Bridging" feature is disabled; if so, you can re-enable Bridging from your receiver's settings. It's at the top of the screen. You'll find this option near the top of the Settings page. Select Advanced. Doing so opens the Advanced Settings menu.
Select Bridging and switch it to "On". I have my PC wired directly to the router and one wireless laptop. Thanks for the help so far. Here are my settings on the receiver. IP address. DNS I really appreciate this. Thank you so much. DoubleHelix Banned. Joined Dec 9, Messages 24, From the manual, it doesn't appear you have the option of using a static IP address on the receiver, so I don't know how you were trying to do that.
It will certainly complicate matters further. Did you verify that the port on your router and the cable you're trying to use with the receiver both work fine with a computer? Are you prompted on the receiver to select a network type? Or do you get an error?
If so, what error? Are you selecting "Wired" as a connection type? As doublehelix said - try a PC on the end of the cable and make sure that all works ok. My laptop has a bad ethernet port and I already ran the wire thru the wall, so it will be difficult to hook it up to my PC if you really think that's the problem, I'll do it I've tried using various numbers between 1 and I think it maybe useful - or do you have a friends laptop you could borrow Once you know the router can detect a device on the end of the cable at least you can be certain its the directtv I cannot seem to get to the manual online to look at the settings can you set it up to dhcp?
It was the cable!!!! I got a new one and it works perfectly. Thank you so much for your help I wish I could email a sixpack to you for all that you did. Thanks again and take care.
